Sikap Bu Guru, Sebuah Catatan Pemenang ACI

“Kalian dosen bukan? Kalau dosen saya nggak suka.”

Semakin malam, suasana pun terasa semakin hangat. Ibu Muslimah sangat suka bercerita.

Lyrics for a portrait of engineering students

Saari umra hum
All our lives,
Mar mar ke jee liye
we've barely lived.
Ek pal to ab humein jeene do
Let us live a little now,
Jeene do
if only for a moment.

Give me some sunshine
Give me some rain
Give me another chance
I wanna grow up once again.

Kandhon ko kitabon
Books weight,
Ke bojh ne jhukaya
drooped our shoulders.
Rishvat dena to khud
Of all people,
Papa ne sikhaya
dad taught us to bribe.
99% marks laaoge to ghadi,
A watch for 99% test scores,
varna chhadi
and a cane for anything less.

Likh likh kar pada hatheli par
All that writing blistered,
Alpha, beta, gamma ka chaala
our palms with Alpha, Beta and gamma.
Concentrated H2SO4 ne poora
Concentrated H2SO4,
Poora bachpan jalaa daala
combusted our childhood.

Bachpan to gaya
We lost our childhood,
Jawani bhi gayi
We lost our prime.
Ek pal to ab humein
Let us live a little now,
Jeene do jeene do
if only for a moment.

Teacher

Through events I have read and discussed recently, they leads me to several noble quotes from William Arthur Ward about education and teacher:

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”

Flatter me, and I may not believe you. Criticize me, and I may not like you. Ignore me, and I may not forgive you. Encourage me, and I will not forget you. Love me and I may be forced to love you"

Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe: practice. Do more than be fair: be kind. Do more than forgive: forget. Do more than dream: work.

Four steps to achievement: Plan purposefully. Prepare prayerfully. Proceed positively. Pursue persistently.

"If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it."

and they recall me, the human's duties as a chalip on earth:

"He it is who has placed you as caliph of the earth. And He has raised exalted some of you in rank above others, that He may try you by the test of that which He has given you. Surely your Lord is swift in prosecution , and He verily is Forgiving and Merciful"
Q.S. 6:156

a better live should be human responsibility to built and construct

"You are not here merely to make a living.
You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement.
You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand"
by Thomas Woodrow Wilson

ABET EC 2000 Criteria Series (2)

Experiments and laboratory works enhance the ability to design a system component, or process to meet desired needs

Most persons have spent many hours performing experiments, during this time they will be asked to analyze and interpret the data.
What does this means?

Practicing through analyzing and interpreting the data will enhance the skill to design a system.

During the experiment, there are two simple part to do, firstly to reconstruct it trying to understand why each element is there, seccondly to determine what the experiment is trying to teach us.

Even though it may not always seem so, every experiment conducted will motivated to teach some one about something.

ABET EC 2000 Criteria Series (1)

An Ability to Apply Knowledge of Mathematics, Science and Engineering

The big question regarding the topic above is how do I develop and enhance this skill?

The best approach is to work as many problem as possible in all of courses.
I have to spend time for analyzing were, when and why I have difficulty in easily arriving at successfull solutions.

Some times taking time to think about the problem and how I should solve it will always save my time and frustation in the end

There are also six step roblem solving techniques:
(1) Carefully identifying the area where I have difficulty solving the problem
(2) Improve my defficiencies in understanding and (3) ability to use correctly certain mathematical principles
(4) Returning to my fundamental math text and (5) carefully review the appropriate sections and in some cases work some example problem in that text
(6) Keep nearby always alll my basic mathematics, science and engineering textbooks.

This process continually looking up material that I thought I had acquired in the earlier courses, and it may seem very tedious at first, however, as the skill develop and my knowledge increase, this process will become easier and easier.

Many people believed it is very process that led some one from being a much less than average student to some one who could earn the success in the future.
